The Peace Tower Housing Complex is designed to create affordable housing primarily for recently arrived immigrants to Manitoba. It is a non-profit rental housing complex, sponsored by the Peace Tower Housing Corporation. Directors of the Corporation are Dr. Joseph Du, CM,OM, President, Dr. Patrick Choy,OM, Vice-President, Mr. Terry Prychitko, FCA, Secretary-Treasurer, and Mr. David Cheop,LLB,QC, Hon. Solicitor. Board members included Dr. Yuewen Gong, Ms Debbie Guo, Mr. Ben Lee, Ms Malinda Lee, and Ms Jade Wang.
The construction of the Peace Tower is supported by all three levels of governments. This housing complex is a $14.7-million, seven‑storey apartment complex built in the heart of Winnipeg’s Chinatown at Princess Street and Logan Avenue. It has 6 one-bedroom units, 30 two-bedroom units and 12 three-bedroom units. The main floor has a 2,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose room for organized events and an adjoining patio for recreational use.
Construction of the building started in August, 2011, and scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012. Application for Tenancy will be available in the fall of 2012.
